Gibson Style O Guitar ( 1902 to 1923 )
The gibson style O guitar has a primitive and old style mandolin design but they play a major and important roll in gibson's history, especially for acoustic archtop guitars .
These gibson guitars were considered the most prestigious guitars of its time and is known to be the base model design from which other future gibson archtop guitars derived from .
They were based on original archtop designs from Orville Gibson himself , and were actually introduced in the late 1800s .
These guitars were very popular as MANDOLIN orchestra/Ensemble instruments. Hence the scroll shaped upper bout.
The top is hand carved spruce. The back and sides, depending on the models appointment level will be BIRCH or Walnut or possibly Mahogony.
These models were made thru and including the LOYD LOAR period.
Gibsons made during that apochraphyl era do attract collector interest.
Gibson's top of the line archtop guitar from the turn of the century.
Distinctive scroll shaped upper bass bout with a Florentine cutaway.
It has an oval soundhole with diamond pattern rosette.
Carved Ebony bridge and extension fingerboard with Pearl dot inlays.
Deep V shaped neck is fully bound, the headstock has a Pearl inlaid fleur de lis.
Engraved 3 on a strip tuning gears. Trapeze tailpiece with celluloid block to retain strings.
Mahogany finish with an Ebony top
